In a classic early 1990s book on photography, British feminists Jo Spence and Sharon Holland made the argument that women are “guardians of memory, selecting and preserving the family archive.”  How true is this?  Please help us by posting statistics known to you about various groups.  For example, latest statistics (mostly from the years 2005-2008), indicate the following for the United States:

Librarians: 80 percent female, 20 percent male

Archivists: 64.6 percent female, 34.4 percent male

Historians: 40 percent female, 60 percent male

Genealogists and Local Historians:  71 percent female, 29 percent male
